No thanks, clear off!

The hoolies had arrived off of Cowes yesterday, spoiling the peace on their jetbikes.  This character was close to shore at Prince’s Green, a spot sometimes used for swimming.  All I can say is CLEAR OFF TO SANDOWN BAY where there are at least agreed areas for jetbike use and children and adults alike do [...]

Red Jet creates smokescreen

I know our MP amongst others is pushing for a review of cross-Solent travel prices, but does the Red Jet really need to create a smoke screen as it accelerates out of Cowes Harbour?  Wighteye’s Mum can even smell the smoke at times from her home and I certainly wouldn’t like to have been on [...]

East Cowes resonates on a daily basis to what sounds like a drum beat - but samba practices are generally more tuneful and short-lived;  no, this comes from across the river where they are developing a site on the corner of Medina Road and Bridge Road.  The continual beat comes from a pile-driving operation.  This [...]

Repairs needed

Estrella Damm is moored at the pontoon off Venture Quays, East Cowes.  Close inspection of the photo above shows that the troublesome keel has been lifted.  A sad end to her Fastnet Race.

Disappointing to see that Stamina and Endurance have withdrawn from this year’s Fastnet, whilst Lowly Worm seems to have made it as far as Start Point then turned around and be heading back to Cowes.  Some 60+ boats had withdrawn by 9:00 this morning.  Tracking systems show that some 7 boats had passed the Bishop [...]

….. even if they are a day late!  The first class to leave Cowes this morning at 11:00 were the big boats, IMOCA 60 class if you wish to be technical.  Progress can be monitored on the Fastnet website.  My favourite is the Estrella Damm boat, partly for its colourful appearance and partly for it’s [...]

Fastnet Trophy

I failed to notice this old trophy until my return journey along Cowes High Street today.  It was sitting in a shop window, pretty much unnoticed by passers by, being used to try and sell some clothing.  Looking slightly unloved, it was a symbol of the demise of society, with our emphasis on commerce and the [...]

Final day brings wind

Cowes seemed a bit quieter today, weather beautiful and at last some wind, though not a lot.  Still, racing was about to start for these competitors, although they didn’t seem to be sure which way to go!  From a personal point of view I now know my Darings from my Etchells, just seeking a brave [...]

Kone

Let’s not beat about the bush, I like the Kone.  Despite the negative witchhunt by the County P*ss, I know that I benefit from the use of artwork throughout the hospital.  I’m looking forward to the new, revitalised Kone and wish to celebrate and support a holistic approach to health.

Poor winds delay play

What is a poor guy to do?   I make the effort to get to Egypt Point for 11 to catch the start of today’s racing, only to find that they’ve not arranged for wind this morning.  Or at least only a couple of knots, the boats were getting in a right tangle, milling around the [...]
